There’s nothing like soaking up some sun outdoors in summers with your cute and casual outfit! We are finally getting back into the swing of things post pandemic and your shoe game shouldn’t be any different. Summer is perfect for any casual activities. Wearing comfortable clothes and shoes is always a good choice. Think about the flowy dresses, shorts, and tank tops, then pairing them up with warm-weather staple flat footwear.
One of my favorite things about flats is that they look more polished than sneakers and less formal than heels. Although not all flats are created equal, as some are more comfortable than others, I have my list of must-haves flats that are comfortable to wear and can easily make any summer activity more enjoyable.
Wearing a great pair of flats is the easiest way to look cute and stylish on a warm day. And since summer is also a time for traveling, give your feet some much-needed break from blisters while looking chic. So please take advantage of the unlimited flats options during summer and start pairing them up with your favorite casual and fun outfit!
Casual Flats For Summer
If you’re sick of exerting more energy to walk in on heels or want to have fun and stress-free summer days, try on these flat footwear for your casual outfit ideas.
Slingback Flats
Not only popular in summers, but slingback flats are also springing staples. This economic footwear is the top contender to the chic and comfortable look. It’s blister-free with your heels gently supported by its straps, unlike open-backed shoes.
Ballet flats
Your summer wardrobe isn’t complete without the classic ballerinas! I’ve always found them cute and chic with their minimalist style and distinctive thin heel. They are perfect for midi dresses, especially if you look very feminine with their ribbon-like binding. It’s a popular fashion trend that can be good for everyday ear and easily worn with skirts, leggings, jeans, and shorts and one of my faves is the Sam Edelman ballet flats. Another most popular version of ballet flats has cute leather kicks with a padded footbed, a micro wedge and a rubber sole that gives pure comfort.
Loafers
Loafers are great even for summers although it’s also mostly worn during fall. In fact, loafers are known for their comfort and are considered easy work footwear. With them and trousers, it’s easy to look formal and chic, and for summer, choose a conducive material for your loafer and pair it up with a breezy dress. Working outdoors with a sophisticated loafer? Perfect!
Mules
Your summertime outfit will never be complete without the gauzy and white dresses, linen tops and dresses, and the cotton midis and maxis. What better way to look fashionably good anytime? It’s choosing an airier variety of mules. It’s a backless and usually closed-toe shoe popular in men and women. And if you want to sneak in a little heal like these beauties, you can choose a chunkier one to get the job done or pick an equally pretty flat if you so choose.
Woven leather
Oh, I love a good pair of woven leather! Sliding into this is ultra-comfortable with its classic and airy structure. Choose a pair with leather that’s soft, rich, and custom-formed to your foot. It is also perfect for midi dresses, jeans, and shorts.
Espadrilles
Espadrilles are also great contenders for warm-weather wardrobes, especially when traveling. Its summery look, breathable design, and thick rubber soles give a super comfortable feel and fancy look. Tagged as the quintessential summer shoes, it’s best partnered with dresses and shorts; this for sure is a showstopper ensemble.
So many options to elevate your shoe game for summer, and so many which are easy to pack with you when you travel and not take up too much space or weight. Remember, summer doesn’t have to be all flip flops, you can mix it up a bit to ensure you are comfortable and still stylish. If you have a favorite pair, feel free to share below or tag me on social as I want to see them too!
Comfortable is my main fashion language, especially when it comes to footwear. Which is the reason I hop in now and then to the espadrille trend. When I need something that screams chic and summer, espadrilles make it on top of my styling list.
Ahhh, strolling on bright summer days becomes exceptionally comfortable with this footwear, a light canvas shoe with a plaited fiber sole. It’s made of esparto rope and has many styles ranging from sandals, wedges, and flat slip-ons. It’s standard Spanish footwear for summer, so it’s widely manufactured there in Spain and Bangladesh, a massive jute producer.
It was initially considered peasant footwear that gained popularity in the 20th century. The word espadrille is French derived from the Catalan term “espardenya and “esparteña” in Spanish. Its popularity rose from its versatility to withstand many seasons.
Spring and summer fashion is not without every style of espadrilles. Think summer dresses, skinny jeans, and daisy dukes paired up with espadrilles shoes. The natural jute fibers pair so well with these summer outfits as they come in plenty of styles and colors. To know more about creating beautiful outfits with the ever-comfortable flat espadrilles, here are some tips to guide you.
How To Wear Flat Espadrilles
Aside from being comfortable to wear, espadrilles are eco-friendly, which is why it’s a major trend worn by fashion bloggers and celebrities alike. For flat espadrilles, here’s how you can style them:
Jeans
Jeans and espadrilles go so well together. Both boyfriend jeans and skinny jeans will take the cake for an off-duty casual or a chic street style combination. Both look better with a black espadrille or a stripe combination of white and black.
Leather
It gives a city-cool look when pairing leather and flat espadrille. Try pairing this duo with denim, and it sure brings an element of class. To tone it down, an oversized tee can do the trick.
Shorts
To highlight your flat espadrilles, wear shorts with them. It’s a total classic style, and pair it up with an oversized top. A white espadrille is a perfect partner for this styling.
Floral Dresses
Nothing says spring and summer better than a floral outfit. Work this pattern with neutral-colored accessories, and oversized sunglasses, and a flat espadrille. Floral summer dresses look great for either flat or a wedge espadrille.
Tropical Prints
Look fresh and vibrant by using tropical prints and bold colors. A red espadrille is the best option to achieve this look. It will really bring out the summer vibe of your outfit.
Short Dresses
For a chic and semi-formal look, wear your flat espadrilles with short dresses. Shirt dresses are so in trend right now. Find your favorite espadrille to go with it and oversized sunglasses too.
Maxi Dresses
For the ultimate spring pairing, rock your maxi dresses with flat espadrilles. Don’t forget a wide brim hat, ratan bag, and belt to complete the look!
Skirts
Spring and summer wardrobes are incomplete without skirts. Flat espadrilles are must-haves when wearing your skirts, be they printed or in solid color.
Sweaters
Another off-duty look goes well with flat espadrilles, and it’s with sweaters and chinos. This is a good season transition outfit from winter to spring. Maybe accessorize it too with gold hoops and bangles to add a sophisticated casual feel to it.
Now that you know how to wear flat espadrilles, you can feel confident in investing in a good pair that will last a long time. You can pair them with everything in your closet, making them a staple for sure, especially if your significant other says you don’t need another pair of shoes! I’d love to see what outfits you come up with, so please share and also tag me on social if you post!
We all have that one favorite piece of clothing that we adore with all our hearts. We wear them all the time – whether it is a casual day out with our friends or a hectic day at work. Ergo, you might as well agree that some clothes are irreplaceable, and you just cannot find something like them anywhere. All the reasons why you wouldn’t like them to become old, ragged, and worn out with time.
However, everything has to go through the test of time – even clothes. You have to make them last for them to stay the same.
But how would you do that? Well, sit back, and let me do the talking.
10 ways to make your clothes last longer
1. Invest in high-quality clothes
It’s a no-brainer that cheap quality clothing wouldn’t stay until a few wears. Thus, invest in good quality clothing that will last longer. (Would you skip fast fashion already?)
Some signs to recognize top-quality clothing.
No see-through material
No loose stitching and no threads pulling out.
Well-working zippers and seals, and well-fitted buttons.
Well-stitched lining.
Material and pattern matching at the seams.
Fabric – Silk, Nylon and leather can be high-quality. On the other hand, sheer fabrics are not.
2. Don’t wear the same clothes frequently, keep on rotating
The rule doesn’t change – A garment becomes less durable with every wear. Thus, the least you can do is not wear a fine piece of clothing – or your favorite one frequently. Switch around. Don’t wear the same garment more than once a week.
3. Separate your home clothes and outings clothes
Let me give you one more reason to be in your most comfy pajamas, and loose t-shirts while you are home – to protect the clothes you wear outside. Ergo, make a rule for yourself – Every time you come back home, change into a different set of clothing.
Why? It’s simple. The more you wear it, the less they will last.
4. Store your clothing properly and with care
For in-season clothes, the rule is simple – Keep them properly, as in washed, and neatly folded or hung.
As for off-season clothes – meaning those you would not wear for months, keep them properly in a cabinet or under your bed drawers. You can even use breathable garment bags or plastic storage containers for storage.
Also, do make sure the clothes are dry and cleaned (don’t go by the look of them, they might look clean but they can still be unwashed, dirty, and full of odor)
5. Hand wash, and avoid dryers
Washing machines and dryers may make your lives easy but they may affect the life of your clothes for the worst. Thus, for a delicate piece of clothing, always go for hand washing and line drying.
While you are at it, do not forget to check the washing instructions on the label of your clothes. Follow them strictly. If you can’t allow to hand wash and air dry, make sure to use the most gentle cycle on the dryer for your laundry to avoid any damage.
6. Don’t over wash your clothes
You might like your clothes washed up and clean. You might as well think that by frequent washing, you are keeping the clothes clean to increase their life. But you are doing the opposite.
In fact, the more frequently you wash your clothes, the shorter their lives will be. Don’t wash clothes after every wear (some types are exceptions). Stick by this guide.
Underwear, socks, under-shirts – After every wear
Bras – After 3-4 wear
Shirts and tops: After 1-2 wears
Dress pants After 2-3 wears
Jeans: After 4-5 wears
Sweaters: Up to 6 wears, if worn with an undershirt; 1-2 wears without it
Suits/blazers/casual jackets: After 5-6 wears
Workout clothes: After every wear
Sleepwear: After 2-3 wears
Bed-sheets: Once a week
Towels: After three uses
7. Attend to stains immediately
The longer you allow the stains to sit in, the deeper they set and dry. Consequently, it will become harder for you to remove them. Thus, immediately wipe them out. If you are somewhere out find a wet napkin, or even better if you carry a stain-remover pen with you.
8. Use cold water
Too much hot water is damaging for your skin, hair, and clothing as well. I know you would be surprised, but it’s true. Your clothes would stay fine, and won’t shrink when using cold water in washing machines.
9. Attend to seams. pulls and holes immediately
If you keep wearing clothes with holes, or threads coming out, you will make them worse. Thus, attend to them at the earliest. Learning how to sew and repair clothes can be a blessing for you in this regard.
10. Take care of the clothes in the closet
I know you thought your job was done when you washed, ironed, and folded your clothes neatly before putting them properly in your closet. But no, something minute is still left – what the title is about.
So, here are a few tips for that.
Keep your closet doors open; at least once or twice a week for good air circulation.
Ensure that your closet is not stacked, and the clothes have space to breathe freely.
The closet and clothes are both dry.
Now that you know how to make your clothes last longer, you can wear your favorites with no worries! And if you absolutely love something and want to wear it more than once a week, purchase it in multiples. Some call them crass, but I call them genius. My husband will be part of the latter where he wants to clean every pair I own! Whether you hate them or love them, pre-distressed sneakers have become popular, especially among influencers on Instagram and Youtube. This sneaker trend started twelve years ago when Golden Goose, an Italian luxury footwear brand specializing in destroyed and distressed looking sneakers. They capitalize on sneaker branding that is worn and loved, just like how ripped jeans and holey shirts are popular.
This trend had polarizing receptions. While celebrities and influencers are known to participate in the distressed sneakers trend, it didn’t come out unscathed. Maison Margiela’s MM6 Fusion Sneakers were criticized after being sold for $1,645 for distressed shoes that appear frayed and dirtied.
So why purchase distressed-looking sneakers fresh out of the box? They’re comfortable, practical and add a certain edge to your look. It’s also quickly partnered with casual outfits, even feminine ones. It is what this post is all about, a homage to the distressed sneakers and all the fine ways to style them. When in doubt with what shoes to wear, always choose the distressed sneakers!
(Should note, as always, I have affiliate links throughout which I make a small commission on if you purchase something and allows me to keep this blog going. I also do a happy dance knowing you loved my recommendation :))
Distressed Sneaker Trend
Buying a pair of Golden Goose sneakers can cause some mint, but there are also alternatives as some brands followed suit in this unsurprisingly popular sneaker trend. If you must have a pair of Golden Goose, it’s your fancy, however, some of the ones listed below are just as fancy and you could buy a few pairs if you’d like for the price of one pair of GGDB.
The distressed aesthetics of these sneakers make your outfit more exciting, and to have more idea on how to style it, check these styling tips. If you feel too dressed up, or not hip enough, a pair of distressed sneakers can be just the right thing to make your outfit just right!
Mini & Midi Dresses
If you think it’s not possible, pairing up your distressed sneakers with your dress is the ultimate winner. You look feminine, cool, fabulous, and the sneakers add a fun element to your look. Wear to brunch, lunch with a beau or out to the club at night.
Skirts
As it looks good with dresses, your distressed sneakers pair up perfectly with skirts, giving you a relaxed vibe.
Flowy Blouses
By pairing up your distressed sneakers with a flowy blouse, it’s another take on making the feminine look more edgy and updated.
Jackets
Wear a cute outfit and top it with a chic jacket and distressed sneakers to look more casual but still dressy.
Shorts
Don the casual look with flair by wearing your distressed sneakers with shorts and a tee. This ensemble is casual basic and suitable for an everyday look.
Jeans and Pants
Of course, this list won’t be complete without the sneaker magnet outfit that is jeans. If you’re into skinny, straight, or cropped jeans, it’s going to be a hit with distressed sneakers.
Any pair of pants can also be a perfect pair with sneakers. I love to match them with a t shirt and flowy pants because it keeps it casual as well as edgy.
Leggings
Running an errand or going on a quick stroll to walk the dogs? Legging and your distressed sneakers can do the casually edgy trick.
Sweaters
For the cold season, you can still keep using your distressed jeans. So easy to pair up with sweaters, blazers, and even cardigans.
Moral of the story, distressed sneakers are here to stay in a big way. You can wear them with about any outfit you can think, and they take a dressy outfit and make it more casual. They take the edge off an otherwise too risque fit. I own several pairs of distressed sneakers, and you can find some of my favorites in this super popular blog post I wrote about Golden Goose Alternatives.
Every experience can teach you a lot. Whether it is working a job, or going on a trip, there are always lessons you can learn to become better individuals and make wise life choices. Surprisingly, even in little instances, little experiences have their own significance when they can give you a lot of takeaways – both big and small.
One such little moment for me, was when I decluttered my wardrobe. I learned a lot more than just facts that decluttering is tough, and I owned a huge wardrobe.
Here are the ten lessons that will stay with me, all carrying trivial and big revelations.
10 Lessons I learned from decluttering my wardrobe
1. I have wasted a lot of money
When you are decluttering your wardrobe, there are not just one or two pieces of clothing you discard, there’s a bunch full of them – including the clothes that we bought but only wore once or twice. Now imagine how much we could have saved, had we made better purchasing decisions. Sounds relatable enough? If yes, then learn from my mistakes. Buy only those clothes that you know you would wear certainly.
2. What I thought I wanted, was what I merely needed
“I want it.”, that’s the constant thought I get whenever I find a dress captivating. There’s a desperate urge to buy clothes even when I am trying to save money. Well, I don’t know if that’s your weak spot, but it’s definitely mine.
Nonetheless, it was only after decluttering, I realized that what I thought I wanted, was just my urge. And when it comes to that, it’s not difficult to control once you realize that the world won’t collapse if your wardrobe doesn’t have that attire.
3. We can never be satisfied
I have heard from the saints, from the legends that we humans can never be satisfied. It is not some kind of epiphany but it definitely felt like it while I was decluttering. I owned so many clothes – only because I was never satisfied with what I had. Satisfaction comes from gratitude. We need to be more grateful for the things we have.
4. Less is Better
When it came to shopping fashion, I always believed having less is worse. I didn’t see the bigger picture back then. But now I do; ever since I got rid of a stack full of clothes – I don’t have less, I have more. And somehow, having less feels better. I realized it when I saw my closet emptier than before – it feels light. It’s as if a heavy load has been dropped off my chest. I also realize how much shopping was emotional for me and not in a good way. It was a coping mechanism verses an actual need of things.
5. Going with the trend and comparing is not important
Life is too short to worry about trivial things. Things like – “I have to keep up with the trend” “People might judge me if I dress shabbily.” “I want people to like me, even if that involves doing an expensive, and unaffordable wardrobe makeover”
Now that I think about it, it doesn’t matter – you don’t have to keep up with the fashion – the world won’t be affected. Moreover, you belong with the people who like you for being you – not your wardrobe.
6. We must strive to be in the present – even when picking a wardrobe
How often do you find yourself buying outfits for a future party that hasn’t been decided yet? I bet it happens all the time. But trust me, when it comes to wardrobe picking, never shop from a future perspective unless you know the event is certain to happen. Moreover, don’t shop for too many categories of clothes you know you wouldn’t wear frequently.
7. Material things only give temporary joy
This was something I already know, but it hit me only after decluttering. I remember how happy I was after buying a dress I liked. One week later, and after constant wear, it didn’t even matter.
8. “What-if” items are just a waste of space
Go back to the last time you were decluttering – you kept a few things wondering, “What if you’ll need it later?” Now, where are those things? Do you use them or are they still lying as they were back then?
I bet it’s the latter. But you’re not alone, it’s a universal story. Nonetheless, there’s no point in keeping “What-if things” because if you didn’t use it until now, you are not going to use it later – as simple as that.
9. Decluttering can significantly reduce stress
Are you finding the magic potion to manage stress? Trust me, decluttering can help a lot. It can reduce stress significantly – including the decluttering stress, the morning rush, and most importantly, I-cannot-find-the-dress-I-want-to-wear stress.
10. Decluttering is not a one-time process
You may get rid of some things, but things will be the same. I mean, over time you will buy new things and at the same time, you’ll find a lot of things that you wouldn’t need. So, decluttering is not a one-time process, it should be a regular practice that you must involve yourself in at least once a month.
Hey there, are there some lessons you learned too while decluttering? If yes, feel free to share them with us in the comment section.
Summertime is my favorite time of the year for nails. I love summer because I love neon and bright colors for my nail polish and can be seen a mile away with my manicure.
It doesn’t matter if you have long nails, short nails, the coffin shape, or french tips, these trends are for you! I generally lean towards a dip powder or gel polish for my manicures, but regular nail polish as well as acrylic work all the same.
The other fantastic thing about summer nail trends is it doesn’t know an age. Any age can rock a summer nail trend, from 2 years to 100 years. Make sure you read on through for my tip on finding your perfect neutral/nude shade!
Ok, let’s get into my favorite summer nail trends.
Summer Nail Trends
1. French Manicure
This one lets you take a different take on a french manicure with either a fun color like pink, peach, or turquoise or do a more of a triangle shape with the white shape instead of the straight line. I’m all about updating the seasons and this lets you keep a classic design while staying on trend.
I think this one would be so fun for any age and you can do these on your real nails, on acrylics, with a dip, or as a gel option. So versatile and good for events, travel, and wedding season.
2. Ombre Nails
One of my absolute favorites for year round, I typically do one nail ombre and the rest solid or glitter. I try to incorporate a total of three colors in this nail design — one for 3 fingers, one for the middle and ring fingers, and then one for the ombre on either the middle or ring finger. This keeps things fun and you can use the same three colors in so many ways it won’t look like the same every time. I used the Essie brand colors for my nails, and did them two different ways.
3. Design with Color
I believe this one comes and goes with the seasons, I always see design and then color year round, so this one isn’t really new. However, this year, I see more neon colors with waves, or with little art designs on top of the colored nail. My favorite I’ve seen was one where the gal was headed to somewhere beachy and she did an ombre sunset look on all the nails and a little leaf on the ring finger, which I believe I’m going to try when we go to Hawaii.
This nail trend is probably the easiest, as anyone can do it with any and all colors, and you can’t go wrong. I know for me, every time I go to the salon, they always ask if I want a design, or something extra and I always say no. But I believe I will try the cute little nail like the one seen here.
4. Multiple Colors with Floral Design
Summer Nail Trends
This trend is very similar to the last one, except it has more colors, usually, and a cute little floral design on two or more nails. The ones I’ve seen do one main color on their nails, and then lines and design with colored flowers or white flowers, depending on the other colors in the set. You can switch this design up quite a bit and have the same trend with different colors and floral placement all summer and no one would know any different.
5. Colored Lines on a Nude Nail
This one is new to me, but it’s been around for a very long time. I remember looking at a design like this for our wedding back in 2015, but with color and a silver line. Now, a nude nail is all the rage and adding lines of color or little swirls of color help make this designer nail pop. I need to remind you, the nude you see in the photo may not work the same on your skin — sometimes it can turn out more pink or more brown. So be mindful when choosing the nude or make sure to let your nail tech know you want a nude that will best match your skin and the photo.
Otherwise, if you tell them exactly like the photo or the same code of the color in the photo, you may be disappointed it doesn’t look the same. Trust me, I’ve been there and done it, and finding the perfect nude for your skin is important! We aren’t all the same!
A little tip on how to find out if a color or neutral/nude works with your skin:
grab the bottle, or color of polish/dip/gel you want to use, and put it against the inside of your wrist. This is where your skin is its most natural color, and will tell you if it will work with your skin tone. If it will look orange, or red, or brown, or yellow on your nails, this is the spot it will tell you. It will also tell you if the color is going to be washed out or too light against your skin. Don’t waste time or energy and have to select another color, try the inside of the wrist first to see how it will look. Now, I know sometimes the dip can be hard to tell but open it up and put it against the inside of your wrist skin and you can get a better idea.
Some places have the nail swatches, and that makes it much easier to grab the nail sample and stick it on the inside of your wrist for a better idea of the finished look.
6. Neutral Nails with 2 Party Nails
For me, this is the most common outside of the ombre nails I do. It’s quick, easy, and still lets me be creative and fun while keeping it simple. If you find the right shade of neutral/nude, you can wear this with the dip nail longer than 2 weeks, even if your nails grow insanely fast like mine, minus the 2 party nails. My favorite way to do the party nails is with one solid glitter, like a silver or white, and then the other with a bigger, brighter glitter or even foil. It lets you have 2 party nails, but gives you the ability to really showcase the one with the bigger, brighter print. You can even do a design on the party nail, on top of the glitter or bright color if you want.
This trend lends itself really well to any holiday, party, travel, or gathering you are headed to. I choose this one the most as I never know when an event may turn up, or what the occasion might be, so it’s a great conversation piece as well as clean and neat.
There you have it, the trends of the summer, as I’ve seen them. Remember, it’s important, now and always, to find your personal neutral/nude color because we aren’t all the same. Make sure to revisit my tip a bit back to ensure you always find the perfect color for your skin tone!
