My Favorite Makeup Brushes

If you’re like me, you can’t live without your makeup brushes. They help you apply makeup better and make sure that your makeup looks its best. Plus, they’re essential for any beauty routine. Today, I want to share my favorite makeup brushes with you. Whether you’re a mom looking for the perfect gift for your daughter or a woman in your 20s or 30s searching for the perfect addition to your own beauty routine, these brushes are sure to please. Trust me, once you’ve tried them, you’ll be hooked!

My Favorite Makeup Brushes

1. Why are Makeup brushes important in your beauty routine?

Makeup brushes are an invaluable part of any beauty routine. Allowing you to create looks that appear as if you stepped out of a professional makeup studio. These tools provide the exact application and blendability required to achieve flawless results, easily and quickly. Having the right kind of brush for each product is essential in efficiently applying your own makeup. From a fluffy powder brush for setting powder, to an angled brush for blush or bronzer application, to an eyeliner brush for perfecting your lash line or delicate eyeshadow brushes for a captivating eye look – these tools can help you save time and create a polished finish. Investing in good-quality makeup brushes with synthetic bristles is worth it. They last longer, pick up pigment better and help you get the desired result without having to struggle with mismatched bristles along the way.

2. My favorite makeup brushes and how they help me apply makeup better

I’m a big fan of the Mac 217 brush as it’s extremely soft and perfect for blending eyeshadows. I’ve also been experimenting withMy Favorite Makeup Brushes Vanity Planet’s 16-piece brush palette set, which has just about everything I could possibly want. From the classic shadow brush to foundation and blush brushes, eyeshadow brushes, and even an eyeliner brush. Having a good range of quality tools in my makeup arsenal has made applying my makeup quite hassle-free. And definitely much more enjoyable. Investing in these essential items is definitely worth it as they not only help me apply makeup better, but have also allowed me to express my creativity when it comes to makeup looks.

3. Why it’s worth investing in good-quality makeup brushes

Investing in good-quality makeup brushes is absolutely worth it. For those that do their own makeup, there’s something special about applying it with their favorite brush. Not only do they help in making the look more professional and polished, but they can be a nice reminder of an accomplishment each time you pick one up to complete a look. When shopping for quality brushes, there are many features and benefits to consider. For example, there are dome shaped foundation brushes that provide a diffused finish while applying your foundation; or there’s the ever-popular Real Techniques mineral powder brush which is perfect for setting loose powder foundation. Whatever your go-to choice may be, there’s nomakeup brushes set denying the advantage of making sure you have the best tools for the job!

4. Tips on how to care for your makeup brushes

Maintaining makeup brushes is essential to any beauty routine, creating an even makeup application and seamless blending. Investing in good-quality makeup brushes is absolutely worth it; not only do they have the ability to apply makeup better, but taking the time to clean them will undoubtedly extend their life. When it comes to makeup brush cleaning, there are many products available on the market that can help– makeup brush cleaner sprays, spinning brush cleaners, or Mac cleaning spray all make the process easier. What’s important is regularly cleaning your brushes using a gentle soap or makeup brush cleaner. This simple step will help your makeup last longer as well as create a hygienic environment for makeup application– benefiting both you and your brushes!

5. A good sponge for concealer is a must and here are a few of my favorites

When it comes to creamy concealers, a good quality sponge plays an important role in creating an even, airbrushed look. Research andSuper Sponge blender experimentation is the best way to find which sponge works best for you. Super Sponge and beauty blender are two of my favorite sponges for applying concealer – Super Sponge offers a soft finish that gives medium coverage, while beauty blender works well for full coverage. Both are worth investing in – Super Sponge can last up to 5 months. And beauty blender has a lasting control formula that prevents it from absorbing too much makeup. Not only do they give great results, they’re also incredibly hygienic to use since they’re made with bacteria resistant foam material. With these amazing sponges, say goodbye to streaky concealers or uneven application!

Some important information on the Super Sponge and why I like it best.

The darker area of the sponge is silicone infused, this area blends and buffs and DOESN’T absorb foundation, it is stain resistant and will clean like new after each use. The bottom is uncoated and works like a regular premium sponge. It is good for picking up any excess makeup if necessary. The little base on the bottom of the case is the drying stand and scrubber. Also, if you are super used to using regular sponges – a good tip for switching to Super Sponge is: instead of pressing and bouncing the sponge, we recommend a swipe, glide and gentle tapping motion.

Investing in good-quality makeup brushes and sponges is ultimately worth it as they help you create a more professional and polishedpink beauty blender look. Not only that, but taking the time to clean them regularly will not only extend their life, but also keep your skin free from bacteria. With these essential items in your arsenal of tools, applying makeup can be an enjoyable experience where you get to express creativity with different looks. Whether you’re using Super Sponge or beauty blender for concealer application, having quality products at hand makes all the difference between achieving flawless results or a streaky mess! Ultimately, investing in quality tools should always be top priority when building up your collection of beauty supplies – because looking beautiful starts with feeling confident about what goes on our face everyday!

6 Self-Care Ideas for Valentine’s Day

6 Self-Care Ideas for Valentine’s Day

It’s that time of the year again where everything will be all about roses, chocolates, and love. The month of February is quickly approaching and I know; you’d be busy planning your V-day.

However, how about spending this Valentine’s Day taking care of the most important person in your life? How about showering some self-love and practice self-care this V-day?

In this fast-paced life where we’re always running to meet never-ending deadlines and working super-hard to pay our bills on time; it’s challenging to find time for ourselves and relax. This V-day, it’s your chance to spend some quality time nourishing your mind and body.

If you’re wondering how you’re going to have a super peaceful Valentine’s Day this year, keep reading for I have 6 wonderful self-care ideas and tips for you.

6 self-care ideas for Valentine’s Day:

  1. Spa Night At Home

If you’re someone who enjoys spending time alone at home, this is the best way to pamper yourself. Light a candle, play some soft music, take a hot bubble bath with essential oil and apply a refreshing homemade mask. This is surely going to make you feel out of this world and you will be able to spend some quality time with yourself.

You can always look out for some online tutorials to make healthy face-masks that would nourish your skin.

  1. Disconnecting From Social Media For Mindfulness

Take a break from social media and enjoy this alone time.

We’re so busy scrolling our Instagram or Facebook feed that we hardly realize how much negatively we’re impacted by this mindless activity.

Spare some time this V-day to practice mindfulness and be actually there for yourself. Experience every single moment and be mindful of everything you do.

  1. Declutter Your Way To Happiness

Clutter in your space shows clutter in your head.

It’s indeed necessary to keep your space clean and tidy. I really don’t mean doing a deep-cleaning thing here but having a neat and refreshing space will give you a soothing feel and you’ll actually love spending time there.

Throw away everything that doesn’t serve the purpose. This is a sign of welcoming new things, creating space for better, bigger things.

  1. Move your body

How about getting some ‘feel-good’ hormones?

Endorphins appear whenever you keep your body active. This doesn’t mean that you have to practice hard-core exercise or go to the gym. You can always move your body by going on a long walk, jogging, dancing your heart out and so much more. Deep breathing exercises are also known to release endorphins and calm the body.

Just make sure that you’re waking up those hormones and spending some time nourishing your physical health.

  1. Just say no

We have a hard time saying no to everyone. Be it a friend or a colleague or even our family members. It’s so conditioned inside our heads to do every single thing. However, you need to realize that you’re just like other humans and you cannot do it all.

So, it’s okay to say no to late-night parties and have a deep sleep meditation instead. You don’t have to keep saying yes beyond your capacity of doing things and you’re worthy of saying ‘no’.

  1. Practice gratitude journaling

If you’re looking for doing some mindful activity this V-day then journaling is your best friend.

While chasing life’s achievements, we usually forget how blessed we’re for having everything we desired. This is your time to sit in peace and appreciate all the little things in life. Be grateful for your own self as well. You have come far and are so worthy of celebrating your journey.

Make a list of all the things you’re grateful for and write a little note of gratitude for yourself. Not only will this make you feel good in the moment, but with continued practice, it can improve your overall mental health.

In the end, may this V-day remind you to spend some quality time with yourself by showering much-needed love and care. And don’t forget to treat yourself to your favorite meal and a glass of wine (if you partake).

I hope that these self-care activities show you the path to practice the art of being with yourself and living a stable life.

On The Go Makeup

On The Go Makeup

Sometimes, it’s not always necessary to put on makeup, while other times a full face is important. And other times, time doesn’t allow for a whole production, so on the go makeup is one of my favorite things to do, even when I have time! I have perfected a 5-10 minute on the go makeup routine, and I wanted to share that with you in hopes it helps you realize you don’t always need to take forever to be put together.

On The Go Makeup

In all honesty, for on the go makeup, I use about 3 products from my makeup bag. They are the best products for giving coverage, quickly applying, super easy, and make my skin tone look even. I struggle with dark under eyes, and hard cheekbone that leave me looking less feminine when I don’t wear makeup.

As always, this blog post contains affiliate links, but all opinions are my own. If you click on those affiliate links, I get a small commission that lets me continue doing this for you 🙂

Primer/Concealer

When I am on the go, I want very few products in my purse, but also ones that willOn The Go Makeup - Tula Primer get the job done. I recently found an overall primer/concealer that blurs my skin tone so anything that’s out of the ordinary will not show through. It’s the Tula Face Filter. It is a blurring and moisturizing primer that works double time when you don’t want to wear makeup, but want to use moisturizer. It also works under a heavier foundation as a moisturizer. Here is the link for the 2 oz size, but it also comes in a 1 oz size.

This product is great for any and all skin types and tones, and makes it look like you have an Instagram filter on your face effortlessly and with very little product.

Under Eye Brightener

Tula Rose Glow & Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye BalmNext, because I want and need to brighten the dark circle under my eyes (thanks dad and dehydration 🙁 ) I do have a few different products depending on the day and occasion for the makeup, but the first one doesn’t require a sponge or any contouring. It provides the least amount of coverage, but works when I need to get out the door asap. The product is Tula Rose Glow & Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm. I like this product because you just pop the cap off, twist up to show product, swipe under both eyes, and then rub/pat in with fingertip.

On The Go Makeup - sculpting concealer

Under Eye Concealer

The next product I prefer if I want a little more coverage, or if I’m shooting some photos or going to an event. It gives way more coverage and adds a brighter under eye. You need a sponge to blend this one in, and I HIGHLY recommend theSuper Sponge. Super Sponge is a silicone sponge that allows you to use less product and lets you swipe instead of bounce when blending. The under eye brightener/concealer I love for this is by Too Faced and it’s the Born This Way product. I use the Shortbread shade which is close to the Natural Beige, and here’s the travel size to give a try. This is a must have in your makeup kit for either on the go makeup as well as for a full longer makeup routine.

And one of the best eye brighteners on the market, that you’ve heard every blogger talk about is the Shape Tape by Tarte. Not going to lie, I do love this option because I like to blend their colors together to make a custom blend. Sometimes I also layer this one over the Too Faced concealer or on other spots on my face when I have a blemish. I use Tan Sand and Light-Medium shades depending on the time of year, and how much I see the sun. Tarte often has a sale and the Shape Tape is always included, so that’s another reason the blogging and beauty community love it so.

Eye Shadow Palette, Brushes, and Eye LinerOn The Go Makeup - eyeshadow brush

The next thing I do in my on the go quick and easy makeup routine is my eyes. If I’m being honest, I literally only do 2 colors, use 2-3brushes, and blend them together. I do a lighter color below my eyebrows to highlight and then a darker color over my eyelid and then use a Mac 217 brush (which everyone needs in their makeup bag no matter how often you do your makeup). The tip and trick here is to blend with the 217 brush AFTER EVERY color you apply. You then blend the bottom color upward into the color above it (regardless of how many colors you have on your eye) and this helps to create a subtle crease.

I will share some of my favorite palettes below as well as the color I use most for these to quickly apply to the eyes. The next thing I do is add a quick line from the center of my eyelid to the outer crease adding a liner. I do the same for the bottom lid and it gives a little more ump to wake up the eye. I always use black liner, but you could easily use any color. One thing I do is always make sure to curl my eyelashes before applying mascara.

If I want to do more than 2 colors, it easily takes 5-10 minutes only for the eyes, but if I’m doing the method above, I can get it done in under 2 minutes with the eyeliner and mascara.

LipsOn The Go Makeup - tarte lip rescue

The very last thing I do for my makeup routine is putting something on my lips. Usually, because I live in the super dry desert, it’s a lip gloss. My favorite lip gloss that also adds moisture is the Tarte Quench Lip Rescue. It comes in nearly 20 colors, including a clear. My two favorite are Rose and Coral. I like that it adds a bit of color to the lip as well as adding hydration to you can feel when your lips are super dry. It has a cooling feel as well as a little tingle.

On The Go Makeup - dior stellar glossIf I want something with a bit more color and sheen, I grab my Dior Addict Stellar Gloss which is a plumping shine and gives 24 hour hydration. This gloss I’ve been using since 2010 and it only keeps getting better with time! The color names and numbers have changed over the years, but now I use 785 which is called Diorama. When I started using this gloss in 2010, the number was 157 and the name was Reflect.

This is the best routine and easiest for me to get out the door, apply in the car, do at home, or in a public bathroom when traveling which makes the biggest impact. It hits all the important areas for me like lip and cheek, and makes me feel confident. And, the last thing you need, if you are like me, are extra things in your bag taking up space. These are the best products to quickly apply and keep in your purse for on the go.

Easy Makeup Removal Product

So this wasn’t part of the on the go makeup routine, but I wanted to include my favorite product and way to easily and quickly remove yourOn The Go Makeup - green clean cleansing balm makeup, either a fully contoured face, or simple on the go makeup. I try to be as clean beauty as possible, and sometimes that happens and sometimes not. This product, however, is a clean beauty product I picked up at Sephora, and love! It’s the Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm from Farmacy.

To use this balm, you grab a small amount from the container rub in your hands to warm, and rub all over your dry makeup filled face. Keep rubbing until it starts to feel slippery on your face. I like to rub over the lips, down the neck, and over my eyes and eye lashes. I use a washcloth with warm water to rinse. This is the easiest and quickest way to remove makeup while also doing good for the environment by not adding more waste to the landfills with wipes.

On The Go Makeup Kit Routine Products

I know I listed some of the products above, but I wanted to make sure you have links, and colors I use. Some of the products I have had for a long time, so the names and numbers may have changed, but the quality of product is still the same.

I gave you all of the links and colors above for everything before the eyes. These photos and descriptions will give you the exact product and how I use them.

For the on the go makeup, I use the top two colors (the lightest ones at the top left, then I use another light to medium color for the lid). This is by far my most used palette of all!
This is a perfect on the go palette because it has all the neutral basics with a bit of shimmer and a mirror to assist in a pinch.
The quickest and easiest sponge to blend and use with your concealer under the eyes or anywhere on the face.
All time favorite liner because my not so steady hands always get a straight line that’s not going to go anywhere, even when I get emotional!
I love using this mascara when I want to add some volume and fullness to my lashes while keeping the rest of my eyes minimal.
When I want to fell more awake and make my eyes appear bigger, this is my go to. It doesn’t clump and instantly makes a big difference.
My ole faithful I’ve had since about 2011 when I barely knew how to curl my eyelashes the right way! This thing is magical and creates a curve like no other.

Subscription Boxes – Are they worth it?

Listen, I know there are probably a bazillion things you get in the mail, on a monthly, quarterly, or even seasonally basis. Heck, I’m sure you’ve probably given one or 50 subscription boxes a try at this point.

I want to share with you the reasons I like them. Also what I do with things that maybe don’t resonate so much with me personally.

So come along for the ride, won’t you?! (Insert Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood theme song, right here…Mama’s you know what I’m talking about)

Subscription Boxes – Are they worth it?

What Are Subscription Boxes

Simply put, subscription boxes are kind-of like monthly magazine subscriptions. But instead of receiving a certain magazine each month, you receive products from brands. It’s a similar business model, but better.

Nowadays, you can find subscription boxes in all shapes and sizes, and in all price ranges. And, there’s one out there for everyone in the family. Subscription boxes can include all types of things. Just to name a few, there are boxes filled with cosmetics, clothes, kid’s games and puzzles, men’s shaving and self-care products, meal kits, pet food and treats, and so on.

Whenever I see something fellow influencers are promoting, I do a little research before diving in and promoting.

Unless, I’ve already been using it and know it works well.

In this case, before I was creating content and recommending things, I was new to treating myself to different things. A creature of habit, I had my tried and true go tos. New skin or hair care products? Forget it. New stores? Not a chance.

I was a very simple person who didn’t venture outside her small box.

Maybe it was due to my childhood and how my body shape and size affected how I saw myself.

But those are both different stories.

Are Subscription Boxes Worth It?

I’m not sure how, but one day, I stumbled upon the FabFitFun box and decided to give it a try. I ordered the seasonal option that was set for winter shipping. It just so happened I received the box right around Christmas. Inside were things I knew I could gift a cousin and sister in law I didn’t really know what to give either.

At the same time, I was getting the Yogi Surprise Box, which was a monthly subscription. Neither one of those people were into yoga, so that box was mostly for me.

Recently, I’ve signed up for the Fabletics membership, which isn’t the same, but it’s a monthly subscription that you get to pick out your outfit for, which works because I don’t need to leave home to get fresh workout clothes.

I’m certain you’ve seen all the subscription services pop up.

Pros And Cons Of Subscription Boxes

Pros

It’s like a surprise each month.

How fun is it to receive a little gift in the mail each month? Honestly, its a great form of self-care!

Allows you to try new and exciting products.

It can be hard to step outside your comfort zone and try new products. But, with monthly shipments of new products, it’s easy to try new things, and maybe even find new favorites.

Gives you something to look forward to.

Even though self-care is SO IMPORTANT, it can be hard to set aside the time. Opening and enjoying the contents of your subscription boxes is like built-in self-care time that you can look forward to.

The products you don’t use make perfect gifts for holidays and birthdays.

You might not always love every single thing you receive in your subscription box. In those cases, you can use the extra products as gifts for those that have similar taste.

Reduces the urge to shop in-between shipments, thus reducing your carbon footprint.

In this consumer based society, it’s tempting to go shopping all the time to keep up with new trends. But, with your subscription box full of trendy new items to look forward to, there is less of an urge to shop in the in-between time. This will not only save you money, but reduce your overall carbon footprint as well.

Cons

Some subscription boxes can get a little pricey.

There are tons of monthly subscription boxes to choose from. If you want to receive really quality items each month, you can expect to pay a pretty penny.

If you don’t love the items you receive, the clutter can pile up quickly.

Receiving new items each month is great…until the clutter starts piling up. Ensure you’ve got the space for all your new items before you start a subscription box.

Some subscription boxes require full up-front payment, with fees for cancellation.

Some subscription boxes businesses allow you to pay month by month, whereas others require up-front payment for longer periods – up to a whole year and beyond. Pay attention to these details when signing up for your subscription service.

Some subscription services make it hard to cancel, so be sure to read the terms and agreements.

Some brands in the subscription box industry have great customer service. Some…not so much. Do a little investigating about customer service and cancellation procedures before committing to a subscription box service.

My favorite part of the boxes is they come as a surprise, kinda like the surprise toys that are all the rage with the kids these days.

How Do Subscription Boxes Work

Most boxes come with full sized products for you to try for a fraction of the membership cost. And probably almost every product in the box individually. I’m sure it’s because the founders have curated great relationships with these companies. With this, many people will see and try their item and it’s well worth it for them to put it in the box. For me, I get to try all of these new products, small businesses, and companies without searching for these products individually.

subscription boxes goodies Are subscription boxes worth it subscription box examples subscription box haul

They come right to me, all at once. In the box comes information about the product and usually a discount code for future use.

If I find I have too many of something, or a product doesn’t resonate with me, I’ve always got a gift or giveaway item on standby. The products never go to waste and someone else is exposed to the product who might become a lifelong lover of the product/company.

handmade leather clutch from ParkerClayAnother favorite thing is I find out about nonprofits who are making a difference in the world, one product at a time. In the Summer Edition of the FabFitFun box, I received a handmade leather clutch from ParkerClay , a Socially Motivated Luxury Lifestyle Brand. They transform communities in Ethiopia through social and economic empowerment. Specifically helping women in Ethiopia who have been removed from the commercial sex industry through rehabilitation, counseling, and skills training.

I don’t know about you, but as a Mother of two girls, this is top of mind when in public. Unfortunately there are people out there who will do anything to make a dollar and rip them away from us.

So finding organizations like this, and knowing my purchase at any time going forward from ParkerClay will make a difference in the world for all females, young and old, helps me remember good still exists.

If it means I discover them when I normally wouldn’t have known they existed, I’m all for it. The quality of products every month are impeccable, not something that was left over and thrown into a box. They are quality that could be sold at a store for a much higher rate.

So, are subscription boxes worth it? It depends on your preferences!

Birchbox or Ipsy

Beauty lovers will love getting monthly boxes of beauty products from companies like Birchbox or Ipsy. These beauty boxes often include sample sizes of different products, so you can try out new things without committing to a full-sized product. Plus, you’ll usually get a coupon to use on a future purchase.

Are Subscription Boxes Worth It?

There are also subscription boxes for kids, pets, and just about anything else you can think of. So if you’re looking for a fun way to try new things or just want to make your life a little easier, subscribing to a box might be the way to go! Join the month club!

So, for these reasons above, I love subscription boxes and will continue to get them. I would encourage you to research one you think could interest you, and check it out for yourself. There is a huge subscription box market. Most boxes allow you to cancel at any time when you decide. I need mention most are customizable to your liking, without removing the element of surprise.

Tell me, do you use subscription boxes, or will you consider using them now?

Affordable and Luxurious Finds for Beauty, Home, and Kids

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Finds

The biggest sale of the year is here and I wanted to share some of my favorite affordable and luxurious finds for beauty, home, and kids from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

If you’ve been around for a bit, you know I love a good find, especially if it’s on sale! I have shopped the N Sale for the past few years and love that they offer more items than just women’s and men’s clothing and shoes. Boho Brand Introduction: Johnny Was

Boho Brand Introduction: Johnny Was

Boho Brand Introduction: Johnny Was

I was first introduced to this high end Boho brand at a blogger crawl here in Scottsdale at their branded store in Kierland Commons.

Johnny Was outletThe second I checked out their IG, I knew I needed more of them in my life! Their color scheme, the Boho vibes, and after visiting their store, the feel of the clothes.

Go ahead and click on the IG and check it out, I will wait…

Johnny Was boho brandJohnny Was boho fashion

Ok, now that we are back. One thing I wasn’t sure about when I first visited their website was the price tag. Chalk it up to my humble upbringing but spending well over $200 for a t shirt or casual dress seemed crazy to me!

The thing I realized was this — I’m not (most likely) going to have an entire wardrobe from Johnny Was without my husband having a heart attack. So more likely it will be capsule pieces that are timeless.

The quality and craftsmanship put into this clothing line makes the price tag not only understandable, but so worth it.

These aren’t what I like to call “throw away clothes.”

Meaning the price is low enough that if it gets stained, washed wrong, shrunk, stretched, ripped, etc. I just toss it and buy something new. — (I know, not environmentally good on my part, I KNOW!)

Johnny Was luxury brandQuality is reflected in the price. The silk is real, the velvet is velvet, not velour. The embroidery work is flawless.

  • Side note — I worked for an embroidery shop that mostly did hats and jackets in my 20s off and on for trade shows, so I know the quality and precision of embroidery work.

In addition to the clothing line, the silk scarves have such vibrant colors and if you’ve never felt real silk just go to either the Johnny Was location or Neiman Marcus to feel them.

AMAZING.

The soap and candle scents are none like I’ve ever smelled. I’m usually not much of a floral scent fan but they have me sooo hooked!

And the coolest part is their soap packages and all their labels match that of the colors of the stores. The soap comes wrapped in a little piece of velvet while the clothing tags have a tassel and embroidery work of the brand’s name.

Attention to detail hasn’t slipped on this brand, they make even the smallest details stand out.

It’s no wonder Johnny Was has been around in the luxury fashion scene and will continue to stay for infinite time! You can find them in Neiman Marcus and a few luxury websites.

I know they are going to be in my closet for a long time coming!

What are your thoughts on this lux brand? What are your thoughts on luxury Boho? I’d love to continue the conversation with you.
